Design Development
The motorcycle style outfit was originally designed as a commissioned piece for one of Lady Leshurr’s TV appearances. Given a short brief where the requirements were black, yellow and ‘motorcycle-esque’ and ‘48hrs’, Tijestelle had to put her thinking hat on and quickly conjure something up. Generally She prefers not to work on tight time constraints, but can admit that it definitely produces the most inventive work sometimes. Part of the Semple mission is to create ‘beautiful mistakes’ and she 100% did that with this outfit.
Tijestelle has a thing for shapes and diagonals so she took to the iPad and began to to get some jigsaw-like shapes going on the trouser and top illustrations. Diagonals to her symbolise disruption, and unapologetically going against the grain which links heavily to Semple’s motto ‘Destroy fear remain true’.
Tijestelle plans to incorporate this design into a conceptual collection at some point. It’s early days but she thinks she would call the collection ‘Out of order’ as the leather fabric, cuts and bold colour combinations gives her that kind of vibe.
Creating a red version of the motorcycle style outfit was fun to Tijestelle, as she could really see that black and red was Ssebaggala‘s colour and loves helping people to express their most authentic self wherever possible.
